Gambia-born, Coventry-based rapper, Pa Salieu has released a new three-song set titled “Afrikan Rebel”.
On Afrikan Rebel, Salieu leans heavily on Afrobeat, one of the influences in his unique style. Essentially, the EP is about being loud and proud about his root, as he expresses some of the struggles he faced when he newly arrived in the U.K, being a black man with an African accent from Gambia. According to him, “the usage of Rebel should be seen in the most positive sense, Figures through history have fought against the odds to stand up for what they believe in and that has always intrigued and inspired me. ‘Rebel’ is a mindset that helps keep me strong and i hope i can encourage others to be vocal about their beliefs and stand up for what they feel is right.”
Produced by P2J, Felix Joseph, AOD Alleyoop, Jay Weathers and PRGRSHN, the EP has got a searing, endlessly listenable energy, which radiates on every track, with features from Nigerian stars, Tay Iwar, Zlatan and Obongjayar.
