On September 21, 2021, Nigerian DJ and singer, Soul Yin commenced her bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest ever DJ set, she set out to break the Record currently held by fellow Nigerian, DJ Obi.
The record currently stands at a reported 11 days. Born Oyinka Asu-Johnson, Yin has been streaming her sessions live on her Instagram account (@soul.yin) and via her Twitch account (@djyin_2021) over the past two days.
DJ Obi broke the same Guinness World Record back in 2016 when he completed a 24-hour marathon in Lagos. He broke the previous record of 200 hours which was set by a Polish DJ, Norbert Selmaj in Dublin back in 2014.
According to the ruled for this particular record, any DJ attempting to break it is allowed a 5-minute break every hour and must have someone dancing at all times. The DJ must also not repeat the same song within 4 hours of playing it.
Soul Yin is planning to run an 11-day DJ set to make sure she breaks it. She is already getting support from the public and fellow celebrities who show up constantly to encourage her and keep the dance flowing. Soul Yin wrote via her Instagram page today.
Already, Soul Yin has done over 80 hours. If she break the record, she will join Stephen Keshi, Lagos State, Olawumi Treasures Bayode, Chidera Anemege of ChiddyBang, Adetunwase Adenle, Tuedon Morgan, Haruna Abdulazeez, David Omueya, Lifeboy Campaign and Kaffy as the Nigerian personalities in the Guinness Book of World Records.
