Mister Kay Swims Through Emotions On New Single, "Drowning"

Continuing his impressive run of singles, MisterKay unveils “DROWNING”, a soul-baring anthem that seamlessly fuses afrobeat with amapiano elements.

The song began with live lead and bass guitar sessions by Ghanaian producer Bskute and multi-instrumentalist Chi Wav, with further production and afrobeat-amapiano drum fusion by Lagos-based producer Gbots.

“DROWNING” captures the painful reality of a relationship on the brink of collapse. Over smooth guitars and hypnotic percussion, MisterKay delivers vulnerable lines like “I’m trying to save you from yourself / I’m trying to save you from me”, acknowledging that sometimes love alone isn’t enough to keep two people together.

The infectious amapiano bounce introduced by Gbots in the latter half gives “DROWNING” a fresh sonic identity, balancing deep emotional confessions with grooves that keep listeners moving. It’s a late-night anthem for anyone who’s ever wrestled with letting go of something that’s already slipping away.
