
World Champion, Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominance of women’s tennis on Saturday, 29th of March 2025 with boisterous win against American athlete, Jessica Pegula.
The historic win secures Aryna her first Miami Open championship following the defeat of World’s No. 4 women tennis player, Jessica Pegula. The margin of 7-5, 6-2 earned her a place in the record books as she became the sixth player to win Miami as the reigning No. 1. Former World champion, Serena Williams achieved this feat four times during her illustrious career.
Saturday’s victory came with a coveted prize award of $1,124,380 for Sabalenka who entered the tournament with $32,163,253 in previously earned career prize money, her enormous fortune has skyrocketed along with her attainment of more career wins, as she secured her 19th major title.
“First of all, I’m so sorry,’’ Sabalenka told her opponent Pegula on the Stadium Court moments after she secured her victory. “For real, if I could share the trophy with someone, I would definitely share it with you. You’re an incredible player. You always push me so hard to play my best. I always enjoy playing against you. It’s always great matches, a great level of tennis. “Continue what you’re doing and I’m pretty sure we’re going to play many more finals. I’m not sure about the results, because honestly I don’t want to lose in the finals. It sucks, I know.” Added, a breathless Sabalenka, who further said: “Oh, That was long. You see how much I like that girl!”
Sabalenka broke Pegula’s serve seven (7) times in the match, which lasted only one hour, 27 minutes, ending when the victor’s down-the-line backhand was returned errantly. The red-clad champion’s racket soared into the sky as the crowd cheered heartily. Alas, a glorious victory!
